Hot video about media players, have a look:
Set top media players, such as Windows Media Extenders, Apple TV, Popcorn Hour, Roku… it’s all about being networked, right? Not if you’re Seagate or Western Digital, then it’s all about selling hard drives! And hard drive players are pretty useful if you already have a large media collection, or just want to control what the kids can watch.

I bought my dad a Mediagate media player for x-mas, and it has an SD card slot as well. If memory serves, it also has RCA, Component, Coaxial, digital audio out AND hdmi … I think.
Are there any of these devices on the market that play .iso files?
She,s looks great….. nice Tight t-shirt.
The WDTV Live has some issues that i have experienced such as MKV, MP4 encoded with AAC kind of stutters (sound drops for about a second then comes back up), AC3 even though it is supported you can only hear it if your WDTV Live is set to “Stereo” instead of “Digital” (Disappointing), YouTube feature rocks but typing in to search sucks, I’m only able to stream MP4 videos over Ethernet (wired) using “TVersity” but cannot stream MKV not sure why. But hooked up to a External Hard Drive, no prob
Google WD hd tv firmware wireless… there is a Tom’s Hardware link in the search results that has some links…
If there is a work around, I have never found it… I’ve been using an older JVC reciever (Dolby digital and dts) and it works fine… and its old and cheap now… so you don’t need a new one… some of the home theatre in a box should work too… or maybe even logitech’s z-5500 computer speakers (5.1 Dolby digital and dts decoding built in)… hope that helps.
x24robin: Hey so do you know if i play a .mkv file encoded with AC3 straight from the WD box to the TV i won’t get any sound out of the tv? Is there any going around the need for the receiver? Thanks in advance.
Hi robin.
how did u set it up wirelessyl, and can u give me the site to do it.
Thnks.
like how the girl is there for TnA
So um, WD is my preference. Simple to use as well, interface similar to PS3. The latest firmware updates allow you to add cover art directly to the file as well for quick browsing. Just my 2 cents.
As I said… I’m 100% for the WD… ONLY problem I’ve found is that some video files (mkv’s mostly) that are encoded with ac3 or aac audio you need a reciever to decode the audio. At this time the unit doesn’t decode these itself. I run my audio to my reciever via digital optical (S/PDIF) and have yet to encounter a file that it won’t play.
hey robin .
im planning to buy a hdd media player as your review shows you re the right person to ask wich one is the best since there so many outhere . i was looking at the seagate ones what you think about it should i get that or the wd. thanks for your time .
The WD TV box plays 1080p perfectly smooth. You will need a reciever to decode some of the audio signals on some mkv’s etc. but it does play them. I haven’t found anything it cannot play. It can play files off a server with a usb wireless adapter, but only if you update the firmware with an unnofficial release. Google it and you’ll find more info. There’s firmware to attach usb dvd drives too. This video review is kinda lame. It doesn’t really tell us much. WD > Seagate. (this time).
I love the WD TV box… I have 2. It’s better than any other media box I’ve tried… (I’ve tried a lot) and it’s simple to use. True 1080p… not 1080i like the seagate. I’m not sure why seagate bothered with this box. It’s a half-assed attempt. Doesn’t even have hdmi? Sad. And the seagate is kinda 80’s ugly too, with a cheap looking remote. WD’s remote is tiny and maybe a bit girly, but it is at least styled nicely.
Actually, the WD passport drives are quite good. The WD mybooks however, are pitiful. I’ve owned 3 mybooks… only 1 survived a full year. I have 3 passport drives running with WD TV HD box and they work great. Single USB 2.0 powers and serves files. Nice and clean and run cool. The mybook drives are not intended to be used continuously, only for backup purposes… run them 24/7 and they’ll turn into bricks.

GREAT VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, I always get that impression when I watch her too.
She makes watching Tekzilla a little easier.
Although I find it difficult to listen to Patrick because I keep staring at Victoria’s (Veronica’s) boobs and then my mind goes wandering elsewhere and then I daydream.
It is kind of like a game.
The object is having to replay the video the fewest times and get past the boobies and smiles.
I win when I finally retain what Patrick is trying to say.
Game over
